Official visit of the Lithuanian Armed Forces delegation led by Commander-in-Chief Valdemaras Rupšys!
On 7 October 2022, a delegation of the Lithuanian Armed Forces led by Commander-in-Chief Valdemaras Rupšys paid an official visit to Ukraine.
While in Ukraine, the Lithuanians visited the city that was one of the first to take the hit, the hero city of #Gostomel. During the visit, the guests visited the Antonov airport and saw with their own eyes what the occupiers had done to the largest aircraft in world history. And of course, the delegation met with representatives of the local community, including the commander of the Gostomel volunteer group, @Garnik Vazgenovich Karanlgtsyan, who spoke about the defence of the city, the difficulties his group faced and how they were resolved. To acknowledge the courage and bravery with which they defended their homeland, Valdemaras presented Garnik with the Lithuanian Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief's Medal of Honour, and in return he received a patch of the heroic unit.
The honourable delegation then visited the heroic city of #Irpin, where they met with the mayor, Oleksandr Markushyn. During the city tour, the guests fully experienced the tragedy and horror experienced by the locals. As a token of support, Valdemaras Rupšys presented the Mayor of Irpin with an honorary badge of the Commander-in-Chief of the Lithuanian Armed Forces.
The city of #Kharkiv, which has been under constant shelling from the Russian Federation since the first day, was not ignored by the dignitaries. It was there that a meeting was held with the Commander of the Operational Command "East" of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Major General Oleh Mikats, and the Head of the Main Directorate of Military Cooperation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Brigadier General Gennadiy Shapovalov.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine / CinC of the AF of Ukraine Valeriy Zaluzhnyi met with his counterpart Valdemaras Rupšys and expressed his sincere gratitude for the support in the war against the Russian Federation.
